Pizza, pasta, be happy! From the oven test with your own family
Our rental ovens are very popular – even among us employees, we may still be looking for the right model for the home garden. What do I want to do with it? More pizza, more bread, meat, cakes or vegetables? Where should the oven be placed? Should it be mobile or fixed? What can I expect from the neighbors? Is it really an imposition to smell a wood fire? We think clearly no. Well, a number of questions arise not only with our customers, but also with us.
To clarify as many of these questions as possible, I occasionally take a rental stove home and test. This time, of course, we baked pizza like the world champions, as usual. There are four of us, the kids love it, and let's face it, who can resist a crispy pizza from a wood-fired oven. So, the first decision, direct firing is very important so that the pizza is as original Italian as possible, or at least close to the original. For this we heat the oven to 350 to 400 degrees in 45 minutes. But once the oven is heated, you can do much more with it. At 200 degrees, the pizza dough can also be baked into a delicious loaf of bread. With a little olive oil and salt, we have a delicious appetizer. We have also prepared vegetables in it, at about 150 degrees. Just put them in the baking dish, add a little oil and herbs and let them simmer. Very tasty, tastes immediately a bit like vacation.
The insanely great wood stove scent also beguiles the neighbors
Another time, after making pizza, we waited until the temperature in the oven had cooled to about 280 degrees. And then we tried our hand at bread, a nice sourdough bread. We had already made the dough the day before. After portioning it got a short rest and then in the oven, door closed and wait. To wait and not, or only in between times briefly, to see how the breads develop. But it is worth it. The smell already reveals a lot about what's going on in the oven. And everyone loved the result. Even the kids - who are usually rather unenthusiastic about bread - got stuck in.
The neighbors, by the way, were very pleasantly surprised and joined in the fun. Of course, at a distance - because of Corona - and the pizza was this time only handed over the garden fence, instead of eating together at the long table as last time. But so we also had the peace to try out the other dishes.
Our conclusion on the direct-fired wood-burning oven for home
We now know both ovens that come into question for us, the Valoriani Baby with 60cm diameter and the Fontana Margherita with the baking chamber of 60cm x 60cm from the Linea Red series. Both ovens can be mobile placed on casters or permanently installed in the garden. Our oven must be mobile, because we sometimes have more guests and want and need to change the location within the garden. Of course, it should be fired directly with wood, because dad and son love to make fire. And because mom and daughter think it smells so good with it. And of course because it makes the very best pizza. The neighbors agree and are bribed with the cooking results if necessary. A smaller baking chamber is enough for us, because the ovens heat up to over 400 degrees and the pizza only has to stay in for 90 seconds. For us, this means that we can eat together even if we have a lot of guests, because the pizza is ready so quickly. And because it is of course much more sociable when everyone is allowed to take from the middle of the table and fresh dishes are always added.
Who has now still further detail questions to the practical handling of the Öfen in the domestic garden, calls us best directly. The boss is of course the expert also for all the technical questions. But we all have a lot of experience and fun cooking with our great ovens and can certainly help you decide for the right oven. Call us or write us a message.
