Pizza oven with gas burner: tips and tricks
Do you have a pizza oven with a gas burner or are you thinking about whether to buy gas or wood-fired? Then here are some tips and tricks for using a gas burner in your pizza oven. This may make your decision easier.
Tip 1: Ignition electrode/monitoring electrode (ionisation electrode)
Every gas burner has an ignition electrode and a monitoring electrode. The ignition electrode ignites the flame at the push of a button on the regulator of the gas burner. The monitoring electrode, also called the ionisation electrode, ensures that the burner maintains a stable flame. If something is wrong with the flame, the monitoring electrode signals "off" to the burner and the gas burner switches off automatically.
What can go wrong?
It is possible that the electrodes are dirty. This happens during normal use due to soot particles, especially if the gas pizza oven is additionally or exclusively fired with wood.
What can I do?
Check the electrodes regularly before switching on the burner and clean them with a soft brush according to the operating instructions. When using wood in your gas pizza oven, use a burner cover made of fireproof material.
Tip 2: Piezo igniter
The gas burners in the pizza ovens have a piezo igniter. At the touch of a button, blue sparks are created that ignite the gas flowing out of the burner. The piezo igniter is a safety feature when using the oven. It prevents large amounts of gas from escaping and prevents burns.
What can go wrong?
Piezo igniters are very safe and require little maintenance. In pizza ovens, the igniters are powered by batteries. This can, of course, go flat.
What can I do?
Replace the battery and continue baking your pizza. If you don't know where the battery compartment is, check the operating instructions.
Tip 3: Tightness of the gas hose
Sometimes the gas hose leaks.
What can happen?
In this case, two things can happen: Not enough gas flows into the burner, there is no stable flame and the monitoring electrode reports malfunction, the burner goes out again and again. So little gas flows into the burner that the burner does not ignite and no flame is produced.
What can I do?
Check the gas hose and replace it if necessary, reconnect everything as described in the operating instructions.
Tip 4: Cleaning
Always remember to clean your gas burner from time to time. To do this, we recommend following the operating instructions and cleaning it twice a year.
And finally:
