Pizza Oven with Gas Burner: Tips and Tricks
Do you have a pizza oven with a gas burner or are you considering whether to buy gas or wood-fired? Then we have tips and tricks for handling a gas burner in a pizza oven. This might also make your decision easier.
Tip 1: Ignition Electrode/Monitoring Electrode (Ionization Electrode)
Every gas burner has an ignition and a monitoring electrode. The ignition electrode ignites the flame at the push of a button on the regulator of the gas burner. The monitoring electrode, also known as the ionization electrode, ensures that the burner maintains a stable flame. If something is wrong with the flame, the monitoring electrode reports "off" to the burner, and the gas burner automatically turns off.
What can go wrong?
It is possible for the electrodes to be dirty. This happens during normal use due to soot particles, especially if the gas pizza oven is additionally or exclusively wood-fired.
What can I do?
Regularly check the electrodes before turning on the burner and clean them with a soft brush according to the operating instructions. When using wood in your gas pizza oven, use a fireproof cover for the burner.
Tip 2: Piezo Igniter
The gas burners in pizza ovens are equipped with a piezo igniter. On pressing a button, blue sparks ignite the escaping gas at the burner. The piezo igniter ensures safety when using the oven. It prevents the release of large amounts of gas and prevents burns.
What can go wrong?
Piezo igniters are very safe and low-maintenance. In pizza ovens, the igniters are battery-operated. These can naturally run out.
What can I do?
Replace the battery, and continue baking pizza. If you're unsure where the battery compartment is, check the operating instructions.
Tip 3: Tightness of the Gas Hose
Sometimes the gas hose might be leaking.
What can happen?
In this case, two things can happen:
- Not enough gas flows into the burner, resulting in an unstable flame, and the monitoring electrode signals a malfunction, causing the burner to repeatedly turn off.
- So little gas flows into the burner that it doesn't ignite and no flame is produced.
What can I do?
Check the gas hose and replace it if necessary, reconnect everything according to the operating instructions.
Tip 4: Cleaning
Always remember to clean your gas burner now and then. We recommend following the operating instructions and cleaning twice a year.
